Jean grew up with a camera in his hand. It reinforced his taste for adventure, and led him to explore both urban and wild jungles. The many landscapes, cultures and encounters he has experienced have nurtured his cinematography.

He studied art history and philosophy applied to cinema at the Sorbonne in Paris, and later specialized in shooting techniques during his BTS image studies. Amazed by the inherent beauty of nature and people, he first worked on documentaries and then on narrative films.
